When to Use a Bay or Bow Window
Bay & Bow windows are often used in Prairie, Tudor, French, Ranch, and Contemporary designs. These types of windows add beauty and architectural detail to both the inside and outside of your home. These windows can be used in most rooms – living, dining, family, or bedrooms rooms and even kitchens. Bays and bows also bring more light into a room while making the room seem larger.

What is the difference between a Bay and a Bow window?
If you think of the total width of where you want the window, the two types of windows will differ by their shape, number of sashes, and the size of the sash. A bow window would have 3, 4, or 5 sashes. These sashes would all be the same width – 3, 4, or 5 equal glass panels. The outside of the window is shaped like the bow of a bow and arrow – a smooth curve. A bay window has about half of the total width as a picture window in the center and a smaller window on each side. It has a more angled look. Which style is used on which home is totally up to you. Some homeowners like to be able to look out the picture window center of the bay. Some homeowners like all the sashes being the same width. The choice is yours!

Ventilation
In either case the windows at the far right and left are the windows that would open for ventilation. They can either be casement or double hung windows. Both styles are used. It is your choice.
